Obituary of Charles H. Willard (29 June 1910, Robinson (IL) Argus)
Charles H. Willard died at his home in this city last Wednesday night, following a brief illness. He was born in Hutsonville in 1848, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Willard. He was one of seven children, of whom four are living being Mrs. Mary Pearce and Mrs. Amanda Miller of this place, Mrs. Sarah Adams, of Terre Haute, and George Willard. The deceased are Mrs. Maria Martin and Mrs. Nannie Stark.
When about fifteen years of age, he enlisted in the Union army and served his country in the Civil war. Following his discharge, he returned to Hutsonville and engaged in the lumber business, being employed for many years as manager of the McNutt lumber yard. A few years since he removed to Robinson, where he was similarly employed by H. E. Otey.
He was married to Edith Madora Truitt, July 11, 1880, and to them were born four children, three of whom are living, being Ruth, Charley, and Frank. Mrs. Willard died in Hutsonville three weeks ago, her death being quite sudden. Mr. Willard had been in poor health for some time, and sorrow and grief at the loss of his wife hastened his death.
He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. and also of the Modern American in which he carried $1800 insurance. Funeral services were held at the home Friday at 12 o'clock and the remains were taken to Hutsonville for interment. The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. lodge.
