1. 4-Sept-1879 Declaration For Invalid Pension. A. Garret Burket age 37 living within 1 1/2 miles of Post Office in Clark Center, Clark County, IL. B. Entered service under name Garret Burket on Feb 25, 1864, Pvt, Co. E, 62nd Reg, IL Volunteers commanded by Captain Luther L. Humphrey. C. Garret discharged at Little Rock , Ark, on March 6, 1866. D. Garret's personal description: age 37; 5 ft, 6 inches tall; dark complexion; dark hair; gray eyes. E. Sept 1864 he contracted at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, typhoid pneumonia caused by exposure resulting in diseased lungs. F. Treatment: In Regional Hospital at Pine Bluff, Ark, Sept 1864 for 3 months. G. Occupation: farmer in Clark County, IL.

2. Affidavit In Garret Burketts Pension Claim By H. C. Fahlbush, Age 54, Marshall P.O., Clark Co, IL

That he was well acquainted with said Burkett between 2 and 3 years prior to and at date of his enlistment in March 1864 living within 3/4 of a mile of said claimant all the time above named. And knew that he was strong and able bodied young man and has especially free from disease of the lungs and he had no disease of the lungs or typhoid pneumonia prior to the date of enlistment. And have lived one mile from said claimant all the three said years and personally know he has been affected all the time. Some times better and then again worse with disease of the lungs and make the above situation____as after as once a week during above named final hours.

3. 16-Mar-1880 GARRETT BURKETT APPLIES FOR INVALID PENSION

He says that for three years immediately proceeding his enlistment he has resided in Clark county, Illinois, and his occupation was that of farming and since his discharge he has resided in the same place and his occupation has been the same. At Pine Bluff State of Arkansas on or about August or September as now he recollects whilst in camp he was taken sick with typhoid Pneumonia in the year 1864. And was treated by surgeons Cameron and Hutch, both of them are dead. And since his discharge being treated by Dr. J. McMucer, Dr. Haslaed who are dead and R.H. Bradly. And he had no attacks of any other disease and states that he has performed some manual labor since his discharge that of farming and has been prevented from filling his usual occupation at least one half of his time each summer and is worse in the fall and winter.

4. 15-Nov-1880 The pension office ask Garret Burkett who served as a private in Company E, 62nd Illinois Volunteers to furnish data on his illness. A. Disability---typhoid and pneumonia contacted at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Sept 1864. B. Was in Regimental Hospital C. Discharged from service March 6, 1866.

5. 21-Jan-1881 CLARK COUNTY, ILLINOIS

Personally appeared before me a clerk of the county court of the county aforesaid, Garret Burkett who being upon oath says that he is an applicant for pension claim 11354. That he has made diligent search for his company commander and cannot find out his where about or place of residence. That he also has received the intelligence that Dr. Seth Hatch who was an assistant surgeon of his Regt and treated him for disability while in the service is now dead. He asks that in consequence of his inability to procure the testimony of the above named offices that he be allowed to furnish proof required by his comrades in the service.

6. Affidavit For Pension He was unable to show medical evidence showing continuous treatment since discharge, because for a greater portion of the time he treated himself with domestic and patent remedies. He cannot furnish testimony of Dr Martin Flenner who treated him in May 1866 and at times since because Dr. Flenner refuses to testify giving as his reason that he doesn't believe in pensions. He therefore respectfully requests that the testimony of neighbors be accepted as showing his condition during periods not covered by medical evidence.

He volunteered for three years service. C. Company Rolls Report: 1. March/April 1864---absent, left sick at Little Rock, Ark. 2. May/June 1864---present, returned to duty in company. 3. June 10, 1864---present at roll call through April 3, 1865. 4. Sept 1864---name not on rolls, company stationed at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. 5. March 6, 1866---mustered out with company at Little Rock, Arkansas. 6. July 6, 1864---Garret was sick in quarters and admitted into the Regimental Hospital July 14, 1864, with fever. Sick in quarters Nov 1864. 7. Nov 23, 1864---returned to duty. 8. Dec 21, 1864---sick in quarters with influenza. 9. Dec 24, 1864---returned to duty.
