Organized in McLean County and mustered in August 20, 1862. Moved to Benton Barracks, Mo., August 25, 1862, thence to Rolla, Mo., September 10, and march to Springfield, Mo., September 16-24. Duty there till October 11. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, Army of the Frontier, Dept. of Missouri, to June, 1863. 2nd Brigade, Herron's Division, 13th Army Corps, Dept. of the Tennessee, to July, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 13th Army Corps, Dept. of the Tennessee, to August, 1863, and Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1864. U.S. Forces Brownsville, Texas, to August, 1864. U. S. Forces Mobile Bay, Dept. of the Gulf, to December, 1864. District of Southern Alabama, Dept. of the Gulf, to February, 1865. 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, Reserve Corps, Military Division West Mississippi, February, 1865. 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 13th Army Corps (New), Military Division West Mississippi, to July, 1865.

SERVICE - March from Springfield to Cassville, Mo., October 11-14, 1862. Expedition to Cross Hollows, Ark., over Boston Mountains, October 17-24. March to Wilson's Creek November 4-22. Forced march to relief of General Blunt, December 3-6. Battle of Prairie Grove, Ark., December 7. At Prairie Grove till December 27. Expedition over Boston Mountains to Van Buren, White River, December 27-31. March through Missouri to near Rolla and duty there till June, 1863. Moved to St. Louis, Mo., thence to Vicksburg, Miss., June 3-10. Siege of Vicksburg, Miss., June 10 - July 4. Surrender of Vicksburg July 4. Expedition to Yazoo City, Miss., July 12-21. Moved to Port Hudson, La., July 24, thence to Carrollton, La., August 28, and duty there till September 5. Expedition to Morganza September 5 - October 11. Action at Morgan's Ferry, Atchafalaya River, September 7. Moved to the Rio Grande, Texas, October 23 - November 4. Moved to Brownsville November 5-9, and duty at Fort Brown till July 28, 1864. Moved to Carrollton, La., August 1-5, thence to Mobile Bay, Ala. Operations against Fort Morgan, Mobile Bay, August 9-23. Capture of Fort Morgan August 23. At Navy Cove near Fort Morgan till December 14. Expedition to Pascagoula December 14-31. Franklin, Miss., December 22. Duty at Navy Cove till March, 1865. Campaign against Mobile and its defenses March 17 - April 12. Siege of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely March 26 - April 8. Assault and capture of Fort Blakely April 9. Conducted prisoners to Ship Island, then on duty at Mobile till June 22. Moved to Galveston, Texas, and duty there till July 17.

Mustered out July 17, 1865.

Regiment lost during service 9 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 162 Enlisted men by disease. Total 175.
