HENRY W. SHONK OBITUARY
CLARK COUNTY HERALD
Henry W. Shonk was born in Butler County, Ohio, July 22, 1838. His father moved the family to Illinois and settled on the farm that Henry died on. Here he grew to manhood and in 1862 entered his countries service as a private in Company F, 79th Illinois Volunteers. At the close of the war he was mustered out with his regiment and came home and went to work on the farm. In 1866 he was married to Miss. Mary Brosman. Ten children have been born to them, seven of who, three boys and four girls, with their mother, survive the husband and father.
On Sunday after a funeral discourse in Blue Grass Church by Elder Jackson, six of his comrades, two of them men who had stood shoulder to shoulder with him in the same company, bore all that was mortal of him into Blue Grass Cemetery.
