Andrew Jackson Florey
Co A, 8th Illinois Infantry
Andrew Jackson Florey was born in Long Creek Twp., Macon Co, IL on 20 April 1840 the son of Israel and Elizabeth (Bell) Florey. He was mustered into Co A, 8th Illinois Infantry on 25 Jul 1861, discharged 15 Aug 1862 due to wounds he received at Fort Donelson. His pension papers state "that he was wounded by a gun shot in the face badly disfiguring and crippling the action of the jaw and mouth." He re-enlisted 3 July 1863, promoted to Sergeant and mustered out 23 Feb 1866. He was married on 3 Oct 1867 to Arthusa Mandell Nicholson in Decatur, Macon Co, IL. They had one son, John Andrew. He was married to his second wife, Etta Amarantha Nye, on 25 Dec in Prospect, Jackson Co, OR. Eight children to this union: Florence, Chauncey, Andrew, Marguerite, Elsie, Theodore, and Judge Taft. Andrew Jackson is buried in the Central Point Cemetery in Jackson Co, OR. There is a military stone for him in Florey Cemetery in Macon Co, but he is not buried there.
